Supplies for your DIY Men’s Essential Oil Cologne
You’ll need a rugged / masculine container for your men’s cologne.

You can grab whatever container you like, just be sure to use a glass bottle as essential oils can break down plastic.
Carrier Oil
You’ll need carrier oil to top off your rollers. You can use whatever you like but I don’t recommend using anything with a strong scent which would affect the overall smell of your cologne. I recommend fractionated coconut oil, Sweet Almond Oil, or Jojoba Oil – which is what I use.

How to Blend Essential Oil Cologne
Cologne is made up of three components: Top Notes, Middle Notes, and Base Notes.
Base Notes
Base notes in cologne refer to the heavier and long-lasting scents that become more noticeable after the top and middle notes have evaporated. They create the foundation of the fragrance and can include ingredients like woods, musk, amber, or vanilla.
Middle Notes
Middle notes in cologne are the scents that become noticeable once the top notes evaporate. They form the heart of the fragrance and can last for several hours.
Top Notes
Top notes in cologne typically include citrus oils like bergamot, lemon, and orange, as well as some herbal scents.
A well balanced cologne includes essential oil from each category: top notes, middle notes and base notes.
Recipes for your DIY Men’s Essential Oil Cologne
You can come up with your own signature scent or use one of these six men’s essential oil cologne recipes.
Feel free to customize the blend based on your man’s likes to come up with the perfect scent!. The best essential oils to use are your favorite essential oils! Or simply use the essential oils you have on hand to come up with different blends, and experiment to find the perfect blend for you. There’s no rule that says you have to follow these exactly. It’s fun to come up with your own essential oil blends!
If you aren’t a fan of a specific oil, substitute it with one you do like that is in the same category (top notes, base notes, middle notes)or simply leave it out.
Note that these recipes are roughly 80% essential oil and 20% carrier oil. You can easily make the scent lighter or stronger depending on what you like best.
- For a stronger scent, you’ll want to add more essential oil and less carrier oil.
- To make the scent less strong, add less drops of each essential oil and use more carrier oil.
Tip: To see if you like the scent, make a small sample first. If you like it, make a larger batch. You can always add more oils to the mixture later.
Earthy Spice Cologne
- 40 drops Bergamot essential oil
- 10 drops Clove essential oil
- 20 drops Siberian fir essential oil
- 5 drops Lemon essential oil
Spicy Pick-Me-Up:
- 36 drops Cinnamon essential oil
- 12 drops Cassia essential oil
- 12 drops Peppermint essential oil
- 12 drops Grapefruit essential oil
Fresh Cut Grass:
- 12 drops Basil essential oil
- 6 drops Siberian Fir essential oil
- 13 drops Wild Orange essential oil
- 13 drops Bergamot essential oil
- 26 drops Citrus Bliss® essential oil blend
Woodsy Black Licorice:
- 8 drops Fennel essential oil
- 8 drops Cypress essential oil
- 8 drops Wild Orange essential oil
- 32 drops Sandalwood essential oil
- 8 drops Lime essential oil
- 8 drops Wintergreen essential oil
Sweet Musk:
- 32 drops Lime essential oil
- 24 drops Fennel essential oil
- 16 drops Patchouli essential oil
Musky Cinnamon:
- 28 drops Cinnamon essential oil
- 12 drops Rosemary essential oil
- 12 drops Wild Orange essential oil
Directions to make your DIY Men’s Cologne with Essential Oils
To make your men’s cologne, Start with your empty 10 ml bottle. Add the drops of essential oil to the roller, then top up the bottle with carrier oil. Pop the top on and gently shake to mix up the ingredients.

Ingredients
- 1 10ml roller or spray bottle
- 40 drops Bergamot Essential Oil
- 5 drops Lemon Essential Oil
- 20 drops Siberian Fir Essential Oil
- 10 drops Clove Essential Oil
- Jojoba Oil or Fractionated Coconut Oil
Instructions
First, add the drops of oil to your empty roller bottle.
Top off roller bottle with carrier oil such as Jojoba or Fractionated Coconut Oil
Push on the roll-on cap firmly and shake the roller gently until everything is combined.
Let mixture sit for 24 hours before use to let the oils combine together.
Apply cologne to wrists and other pulse points for best results.
Store your cologne in a dark place away from direct sunlight.
